Error Codes & What They Mean

The SR-2, SR-3 and SR-4 base controllers log standard Thermo King alarm codes. Many codes genuinely point to engine or sensor problems — but several of the most frustrating ones are produced by the controller itself when its input circuits, relay drivers, or solder joints start to fail. Here is how we read the codes we see most often at the bench.

61Low battery voltage measured by the controller.After a jump start or welding on the chassis, the controller’s voltage-sensing and input-protection components are frequently damaged — the unit then reports 61 even with healthy batteries.
63Engine stopped — reason unknown. The unit shut down without recording a specific cause.The classic intermittent-controller signature: cracked solder joints or board corrosion interrupt power for a moment and leave no specific code behind. Frequently Asked Questions

Can a water-damaged SR-2 or SR-3 controller be saved?

Usually yes, if it has not been left powered for long while wet. We strip the conformal coating, clean the board ultrasonically, repair corroded traces and components, and re-coat it. The sooner it reaches us after the damage, the higher the success rate.

My unit shows alarm code 63 randomly. Is it the controller?

Code 63 means the engine stopped without a recorded reason. After fuel-supply issues, an intermittent controller fault is one of the most common causes. We reproduce it on the bench with vibration and thermal cycling before repairing the failed solder joints or corrosion that triggers it.

Should I ship the keypad and display together with the base controller?
